Emergency Unit is the first point of call for any condition. They are triaged, monitored and stabilized after which they are sent to the various ward that is Maternity, Females Ward, Pediatric Ward, and Males Ward.
The Emergency is strategically located in the main Out Patients Department block of the hospital, the strategic location of the Emergency makes it easy for identification by all persons attending hospital and relatives of patients.
The main goal of this unit is to provide quick and effective care of urgent patients and transfer them to the other units for further management after they have been stabilized. As a district hospital the emergency unit receives a large number of referrals from outlying health centers. Referred cases such as severe malaria, those with acute abdomen, CVA (strokes) and asthmatic emergencies in addition to renal, hypertensive and diabetic emergencies are commonly managed cases at the unit. As a district emergency unit, the management of patients is aided by devices such as cardiac monitors, nebulizers, pulse oximetry monitoring, blood glucose monitors, and oxygen delivery devices.
Some of the objectives of the emergency unit are as followed;
- To make life-saving interventions to all clients who are critically ill
- To provide analgesia to our clients in pain/discomfort
- To identify relevant issues, investigations, and commencement of treatments
- To decide upon the need for admission , referral or discharge
- To work in collaboration with other healthcare professionals to deliver excellent services
- To treat client with utmost respect and dignity in a congenial environment
- To facilitate Emergency training and establishment of excellent emergency response system in St. Peter's Hospital, Jacobu.
