St. Peters Hospital, Jacobu started its Mental Health care services in July, 2015.
The following services are provided by the Mental Health Unit;
- OPD Consultation
- Home Visit
- Community Sensitization on Mental Illness / Health
- Health Education
- Community Durba
- Case Search
- Community Mobile Clinics
- Psych education / Counseling
- Home Nursing / Care for the Aged
The staff of the Mental Health Unit are Mental Health Professionals from the Psychiatric Nurses Training Colleges, with high competencies and professionalism.
The Unit Detain and Admits patients to the Emergency and Main wards of the Hospital. The Unit has a bed in it consulting room which serves for Observation and Assessment of patient.
Among the cases being handled by the Unit includes;
- Psychotic Disorders
- Epilepsy
- Depression
- Alcoholism
- Behavioral Disorders
- Suicide / Attempted Suicide
- Substance Abuse
- P.T.S.D. (Post Trumatic Stress Disorders)
- The Unit operates from Monday to Friday between 7:30am to 3:00pm.
